CAL 27 Human Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma Cells

Cal27 cells are epithelial cells, polygonal, with highly granular cytoplasm. Immunocytochemical studies showed positive staining of anti-keratin antibodies. Cells cannot grow well in semi-solid medium. In the presence of VP16 (etoposide), CCNU (1 - [2-chloroethyl] - 3-cyclohexyl-1-nitrosourea), VM26 (teniposide), ADM (adriamycin), CPA (cyclophosphamide) and MTX (methotrexate), the obvious inhibitory effect of thymine was observed. CAL 27 cells are resistant to VDS (vinblastine sulfate), CDP (cisplatin) or ACTD (actinomycin D). The culture submitted to ATCC in December 1993 was found to be contaminated by mycoplasma. After 21 days of treatment with BM cyclin, the offspring were cured.
