NCI-H209 Human Small Cell Lung Cancer Cells

This cell was isolated and established by GazdarAF and colleagues from the bone marrow metastasis of a small cell lung cancer patient in 1979. The acquisition of this bone marrow sample was prior to the treatment of the patient. This cell is a typical small cell lung cancer cell, expressing four biochemical markers at a high level: neuro-specific enol, creatine kinase brain-type isoenzyme, levodopa decarboxylase, and bombesin like immunoreactivity. The c-mycDNA sequence was not amplified; No large structural DNA abnormality was found; This cell synthesized p53 mRNA equivalent to that of normal lung. The cells grow in suspension in the form of aggregates. Only the cells in the aggregates are active, but the cell viability cannot be estimated. Generally, the medium contains a large number of cell fragments. The cell expressed abnormal RB1 protein with 706 codon. It was identified as free of mycoplasma/STR and put into storage.
