H446 Human Small Cell Lung Cancer Cells

NCI-H446 cell line was established from the pleural fluid of a small cell lung cancer patient. The original morphology of cells does not have the characteristics of small cell lung cancer. This cell line is a biochemical and morphological variant of small cell lung cancer, expressing neuron specific enolase and brain creatine kinase isoenzyme. L-dopa decarboxylase, sericin, antidiuretic hormone, oxytocin or gastrin-releasing peptide did not reach the detectable level. C-myc DNA sequence was amplified by about 20 times, and c-myc RNA was increased by 15 times compared with normal cells. The initial passage medium was RPMI 1640, 95% with 10 nM hydrocortisone, 0.005 mg/ml insulin, 0.01 mg/ml ferritin, 10 nM 17-beta-estradiol, and 30 nM sodium selenite. Fetal bovine serum, 5%.
