The cell line is from the tissue of a 15-year-old male white man. The shape is epithelial and the number of model chromosomes is 55. It does not cause tumor in immunosuppressed mice. Luciferase is an enzyme that emits light when there is a substrate (D-luciferin) in the organism. This process is called bioluminescence. The most common luciferase gene comes from a light producing enzyme family called firefly luciferase 1 and 2.

In preclinical studies, small animal living imaging plays a vital role in visualizing physiological processes, disease progression and treatment development. The cell line activated by luciferase (luc) provides a simple, high-throughput and robust method through bioluminescence imaging (BLI) 1,2, which can be used to quantitatively evaluate the tumor burden and tumor response to treatment in test animals.
