NCCIT Human Teratocarcinoma Cells

In 1985, Shinichi Teshima (National Cancer Institute, Tokyo, Japan) established the NCCIT cell line from a mediastinal mixed germ cell tumor. This pluripotent stem cell can differentiate into somatic cells and extraembryonic tissues. Undifferentiated cells are between seminoma and embryonal carcinoma. Differentiate under the action of retinoic acid. Keratin is negative. Vimentin and placental alkaline phosphatase were positive. The cell line was once contaminated by mycoplasma, but was cleared before being submitted to ATCC.
