LX-2 Human Hepatic Stellate Cells

Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are the main cell types that cause liver fibrosis after being activated into fibromyofibroblast like cells in chronic alcoholism, hepatitis B and C, fatty liver, obesity, diabetes and other diseases. More and more people need renewable cell culture models to truly reproduce their phenotypes in vivo, especially in human studies. LX-2 is produced by primary human hepatic stellate cells immunized with SV40 large T antigen, and then selectively cultured early passage cells in low serum medium. Xu et al. established Immortalized LX-2 to overcome the problem of culture variation and provide a stable, unlimited and homogeneous source of human hepatic stellate cells. These cell lines have been widely identified and retain the key features of cytokine signal transduction, neuron gene expression, vitamin A metabolism and fiber formation, making them very suitable for the study of human liver fibrosis on the basis of culture.
