MCF-12A Normal human breast epithelial cells

The MCF-12A cell line is an epithelial cell derived from the mammary gland of a 60-year-old white female patient. The MCF-12A cell line is a non-tumorigenic epithelial cell line, specifically derived from tissue removed during breast reduction surgery in a woman who has never given birth and has fibrocystic breast disease with localized intraductal proliferation. MCF-12A cells exhibit typical luminal epithelial morphology and three-dimensional growth of collagen, forming domes in converged cultures. The epithelial cells of these cells were positive for keratin 8, 14, and 18, while cell keratin 19 was negative. Hormone receptor status: ER (estrogen receptor), PR (progesterone receptor), and HER2 are all negative, consistent with normal breast epithelial cell characteristics, commonly used in comparative studies with breast cancer cell lines (such as MCF7, MDA-MB-231).
