12Z Human endometriotic epithelial cells (immortalized)

The 12Z cell line originated from a red peritoneal endometriosis lesion in a 37-year-old female patient, infected primary cells with SV40 virus (Simian Virus 40), causing them to express the SV40 macroT antigen and thereby induce immortality of the cell. This cell line expresses pan-cell keratin and N-cadherin, confirming its epithelial cell origin and also marking its aggressive phenotype, which can mimic the aggressive capacity of cells in endometriosis. The 12Z cell line is primarily used as a classic model for in vitro studies of endometriosis, used to simulate disease progression (such as cell invasion and migration) and evaluate treatment strategies. It is also frequently used in 2D or 3D invasive tests and biochemical studies studying the pathophysiology of endometriosis.
