BJ human skin fibroblasts

BJ cells are fibroblasts established from skin taken from the normal foreskin of newborn males. Applications include toxicological studies.

Compared with other normal human fibroblast cell lines, the BJ cell line has a longer lifespan.

In April 2000, ATCC received a frozen ampoule with a 2.3-fold increase in its number.

These cells were reported to have normal diploid karyotypes at population doubling 61, but abnormal karyotypes at population doubling 82.

They are telomerase negative. Cells from ATCC ampoules have the ability to proliferate to up to 72 times the population before the onset of senescence.
