SNU-398 human hepatocellular carcinoma cells

SNU-398 was developed by J- G. Park and his colleagues extracted it from anaplastic hepatocellular carcinoma of a Korean patient in 1990. The patient received transcatheter arterial embolization with liposome plus doxorubicin and mitomycin C. The tumor cells were initially cultured in ACL-4 medium supplemented with 5% heat-inactivated fetal bovine serum. After establishment, the culture was stored in RPMI 1640 supplemented with 10% heat-inactivated fetal bovine serum. In general, the primary tumor is a single nodule with perinodular extension, and histologically it is trabecular. The cultured cells are multinuclear and maintain the production of transparent spheres in the cytoplasm of prototumor cells. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA was detected by Southern blot. HBV genomic RNA was not expressed.
