MDBK Bovine Kidney Cells

On February 18, 1957, S.H. Madin and N.B. Darby established MDBK cell lines from the kidney of an adult male cow with normal appearance. In 1973, this strain of MDBK cells was infected by bovine viral dysentery virus (BVDV). In 1982, a MDBK cell line that was not infected by BVDV was found. This cell line was originally from the 96th generation cryopreservation tube of ATCC in July 1967. The progeny of this MDBK cell line was detected by NVSL, and no evidence of virus contamination was found. In August 1982, when R.A. Van Deusen provided it to ATCC, it was passed down to the 110th generation. This cell line was not infected by BVDV.

RPMI 1640 (MD0200)+10% fetal bovine serum (SD0200)+1% GA (SD0038)

Gas phase: air, 95%; Carbon dioxide, 5%. Temperature: 37 ℃.

Freezing conditions: basic medium+5% DMSO+20% FBS (SD0200)

Complete cryopreservation solution: non-programmed cooling cell cryopreservation solution (low serum) (SD0001)
