TF-1 Human red blood cells contain leukemia cells.

TF-1 was established in October 1987 by extracting bone marrow samples from a 35-year-old Japanese male patient with severe pancytopenia, treating them with heparin, and then establishing cell lines. This cell line does not respond to IL-5.
TF-1 cells respond to many other lymphokines and cytokines, including: IL-1, IL-4, IL-6, IL-9, IL-11, IL-13, SCF, LIF, and NGF. TF-1 cells do not express glycoprotein A or carbonic anhydrase I. Morphological and cytochemical properties, as well as constitutive expression of globulin genes, indicate that it is a erythroid cell. Hemecrystallin and delta-amino acids induce hemoglobin synthesis, while TPA induces a large number of TF-1 cells to differentiate into macrophages. TF-1 stands out for its response to multiple cytokines and its excellent system for detecting bone marrow progenitor cells.
