SNU-5 Human gastric cancer cells

In 1987, J. Park and colleagues established the SNU-5 cell line from the ascites of a poorly differentiated gastric cancer patient. Previous chemotherapy treatments for the patient included 5-fluorouracil, doxorubicin, and mitomycin.
Cells express surface glycoprotein carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and TAG-72. The cells showed positive for levodopa decarboxylase (DDC). SNU-5 cells are positive for the VIP receptor but lack gastrin receptors. They express muscarinic cholinergic factor receptors. There is no evidence of amplification or recombination of N-myc, L-myc, myb, or EGF receptor genes. The levels of c-myc and c-erb-B-2 RNA expressed by the cells were comparable to those of other cell lines. The following genes are not expressed: N-myc, L-myc, c-cis, IGF-2, or gastrin-releasing peptide.
