NCI-H82 [H82] Small cell lung cancer cells

The morphology of the primary tumor does not match the characteristics of small cell lung cancer (SCLC). This cell line is biochemical and morphologically a variant of SCLC, expressing neuron-specific enolases and creatine kinases in the brain. Its expression levels of L-DOPA decarboxylase or frogretin did not reach detectable levels. The cell produced an abnormally sized p53 mRNA (3.7 kb). The cell's C-myc DNA sequence amplified by about 25 times, and the c-myc RNA increased 24 times compared to normal cells. It has been reported that these cells express functional ANP receptors, but treating with ANP does not alter their growth pattern. The cells showed positive staining of nerve filaments and vimentin, expressing v-fes, v-fms, Ha-ras, Ki-ras, N-ras, and c-raf 1 mRNA.
