HSC-3 human oral squamous cell carcinoma cells

The HSC-3 cell line was established from a metastatic lymph node tumor of tongue squamous cell carcinoma origin in a 63-year-old male patient. Migratory and proliferating epithelial cells were collected from fresh explantable tumor tissue and cultured by passage, with most reports indicating that human epithelial tumor metastasis from subcutaneous inoculation into nude mice is quite rare. HSC-3 is a human oral squamous cancer cell line that forms metastases in the draining lymph nodes when subcutaneously transplanted into nude mice. Conditioned media from HSC-3 have been shown to promote angiogenesis, and HSC-3 cells have significantly elevated levels of growth factor secretion. The highly aggressive nature of this cell line has made HSC-3 a highly cited model for the study of metastatic squamous cell carcinoma.
