MeT-5A human membrane mesothelial cells

Mesothelial cells were isolated from pleural effusion of non-cancer patients, and pRSV-T plasmid (a sv40ori construct containing SV40 early region and long terminal repeat sequence of Rous sarcoma virus) was transfected into cells and cloned. The cells did not have tumorigenicity in immunosuppressed mice, but formed colonies in semi-solid medium.

Vimentin, keratin and sv40t antigen were positive. The cells can be used to screen chemical and biological agents with growth factors, carcinogens, mutagens and other activities.
