The HCE-T cell line was established by transforming the corneal tissue of a 49-year-old woman into SV40 virus, exhibiting typical epithelial cell morphology and capable of producing 64kD keratin. The genetic characteristics of the HCE-T cell line are related to corneal epithelial cells, expressing genes related to corneal epithelial cell function, such as keratin genes. They are widely used as model systems to study various aspects of corneal epithelial biology, including cell adhesion, migration, differentiation, and responses to environmental stimuli and therapeutics. Disease model: dry eye syndrome, corneal infection (bacteria/virus), trauma repair, and corneal neovascularization research. Drug development: Evaluate the permeability and toxicity testing of ophthalmic drugs (such as preservatives benzalkonium chloride) and the delivery effectiveness of nanocarriers. Material testing: biocompatibility analysis of contact lenses and artificial corneal materials. Mechanistic research: inflammatory signaling pathways (NF-κB, MAPK), oxidative stress, and apoptosis mechanisms.
