This is a Luc-labeled cell line. Luciferases are oxidases that emit light in the presence of a substrate (D-luciferin) in an organism, a process known as bioluminescence. The most common luciferase gene is from a family of light-producing enzymes called firefly luciferases1,2. In preclinical research, small animal live imaging plays a vital role in visualizing physiological processes, disease progression, and therapeutic development. Luciferase (luc)-activated cell lines provide a simple, high-throughput, and robust method for quantitatively assessing tumor burden and tumor response to therapy in test animals using bioluminescence imaging (BLI)1,2.
