LN-229 Human glioblastoma cells

LN-229 is an epithelioid cell line isolated in 1979 from the right front-parietal-occipital cortex of a 60-year-old white female glioblastoma patient. This cell line can be used for neuroscience research. This cell line is used for the study of apoptosis. Stimulating cells with FAS ligands leads to apoptotic cell death within 16 hours. Cells also kill cells in a toxin-dependent manner. Bcl-2 protects these cells from FAS ligand-induced cell death, but it has been shown to provide only minimal protection against ureamycin-induced apoptosis. LN-229 is a classic, well-characterized human glioblastoma cell line, with core features including p53 mutant inactivation and MGMT positivity (unmethylated promoter). These features make them irreplaceable in glioblastoma research, especially in the contribution of p53 functional loss to tumorigenesis and treatment, as well as the key role in studying temozolomide resistance (MGMT-dependent) mechanisms. It is one of the most widely used cell models in neuro-oncology and cancer research.
