HK-1 cells (full name: NPC/HK-1) are a human nasopharyngeal squamous carcinoma cell line established in 1979-1980 by Huang et al. at the University of Hong Kong, derived from the nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues of a 58-year-old male patient who had recurred after 17 and a half years of radiotherapy, and are one of the most widely used in vitro models of nasopharyngeal carcinoma internationally.
