Human Umbilical Artery Endothelial Cells

These cells originate from the umbilical artery of newborns. The umbilical artery endothelium primarily functions to maintain dynamic equilibrium between the intravascular and extravascular environments; synthesize and secrete cytokines and mediators; and sustain the dynamic balance between coagulation and fibrinolysis. It is closely adjacent to the fetal capillaries in the placental chorionic villi, where the exchange of CO₂ and O₂, metabolic waste products, and nutrients occurs between maternal and fetal blood. The umbilical artery transports fetal waste products to the placenta, while the umbilical vein delivers oxygen and nutrients from the placenta to the fetus. These cells were cryopreserved at the P2 passage and cultured using our ECGM Endothelial Cell Culture Medium (P1001), enabling maintenance for over 15 passages.
